Where To Properly Dispose Of Household Hazardous Waste

The wastewater treatment plant is not designed to remove toxic substances,
so never dump them into drains.
  • Residents living within the city limits of Carlsbad and Encinitas may dispose of all types of hazardous waste at the Regional Solid Waste Association, 1145 E. Taylor St., Vista, on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There is a limit of 125 pounds or 15 gallons. There are no restrictions on the types of hazardous waste.
  • Residents living within the city limits of Encinitas may also phone for door-to-door pickup service. To schedule a pickup and for more information about both pickup and drop-off services, call 1-800-714-1195. The same rules apply for pickup as they do for drop-offs.
  • Residents living outside the city limits of Carlsbad and Encinitas can dispose of their hazardous waste at a facility operated by the County of San Diego at 324 Maple St., Ramona. For an appointment, call 877-713-2784.
Materials for Household Hazardous Waste Collection: Aerosol cans empty or full, Bug sprays, Floor care products, Furniture polish, Metal polish, Oven cleaner, Nail polish remover, Oil pans, Fiberglass epoxy, Cleaning solvents, Lighter fluids, Batteries, Moth balls, Pool chemicals, Auto fluids and oils, Gasoline, Paint stripper, Turpentine.
