CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

Leucadia Wastewater District’s priority is protecting public health and the environment. Regularly upgrading aging infrastructure is a critical role for the District. District Staff, in conjunction with a team of engineers, regularly evaluates the condition of the pipelines and pump stations to assure that they’re in the best working condition. This requires long-term planning and careful allocation of resources. Below is a list of recently completed and upcoming projects:

Leucadia Site Improvement Project

The Site Improvement Project involved upgrading the District’s existing headquarters, field services, workshop and storage facilities located at the corner of La Costa Avenue and El Camino Real.

The aging facilities and site layout dated back to the 1960s, and were no longer suitable for modern operations. The new upgrades also now fit aesthetically among neighboring properties.

Leucadia Pump Station Improvements

The Leucadia Pump Station is located next to the District’s headquarters at the intersection of La Costa Avenue and El Camino Real. This 30-year-old pump station now has a new odor control system, improved computer pump control system, new overflow tank, four new energy efficient electric motors and pumps, and other improved features.

Batiquitos Pump Station Improvements

This pump station is located on Highway 101 across from the pristine Carlsbad State Beach. Protecting the Batiquitos Lagoon and the neighboring ocean from sewer spills at this location is a major concern for the District. Since this is a prime recreation spot, odor control is essential too. Upgrades at this location included rehabilitating the existing three pumps and adding a fourth pump for redundancy and reliability, incorporating a new electronics system, installing an odor-control system, and enhancing the aesthetics.
